The Reeths-Puffer competitive cheer team made it two top finishes in three meets this season when it took first place on Saturday at the Spring Lake Invitational.
The Rockets easily topped a field of seven teams, finishing with a score of 700.70. Allendale was a distant second with 618.80 while Western Michigan Christian was third at 578.
R-P had a 226.9 score in Round 1 (execution), a 206.7 in Round 2 (overall skills) and a 278.5 mark in Round 3 (stunts).
Rockets Coach Lisabeth Smith said the team struggled a bit in Round 2, which kept its total score lower than it might have been.
"We did not compete against anyone in our conference, and starting next week our competitions will get much tougher and we will need to be a lot stronger," Smith said. "Lots of illness and injuries right now, so we are hoping that we’ve seen the end of that and can move into more practices that allow us to clean and perfect what we have."
The first place finish was the second of the season for R-P, which also won the Cedar Springs Invitational on Jan. 4. The Rockets finished in second place at the Dec. 20 Mona Shores Invitational.
R-P will return to action in an O-K Green conference meet on Wednesday at Caledonia.
