Every pin is crucial in team bowling, which the Reeths-Puffer boys team demonstrated on Monday.

The Rockets were in a tight conference match against Caledonia, winning one of the two baker rounds and one of the two regular games.

That meant the outcome came down to bonus points, and R-P had the upper hand, earning four bonus points for winning the combined score in both the baker and regular rounds.

The result was a tight 18.5-11.5 victory over the Fighting Scots in R-P's first O-K Green conference match of the season.

The Rockets lost the first baker round 171-156 but won the second, 154-105. That left them with six team points, including the two-point bonus for combined score.

R-P's Karsen Boeskool, who won both of his games.

They won the first regular game 856-765 for another four points. Karsen Boeskool, Liam Copenhaver and Quinn Alderink added one team point apiece by winning their individual matchups.

Alderink had the high score for the Rockets in Game 1 with a 202.

R-P lost Game 2, 857-845, but picked up three points when Boeskool, Copehaver and Alderink each won their individual matchups. Carter Hekkema earned a half-point by getting a tie in his matchup.

Copenhaver led the Rockets in Game 2 with a 201 score.

The Rockets also earned the two bonus points for winning the combined regular game score.

"The team bowled well as a whole and we're off to a great start in conference play with today's win," said R-P Coach Craig Alderink. "It was really great to see Karsen step up and bowl two good games. I'm looking forward to seeing more of that in our upcoming matches."

The Rockets, now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the O-K Green, will take on Mona Shores in another conference match on Wednesday.
