The Reeths-Puffer softball team ended an otherwise great regular season with a frustrating 1-0 loss to Hudsonville Unity Christian on Wednesday.
Unity Christian scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning on a daring suicide squeeze bunt.
The Rockets had the bases loaded in the sixth inning with one out and attempted a squeeze bunt of their own, but the effort failed, the runner on third was caught in a rundown and the inning produced no runs.

R-P had runners on base in five of the seven innings but couldn’t get a key hit when they needed it.
Tessa Ross, Megan Barmes, Lainey McDaniel and Kaylee Jones each had singles for the Rockets.
The loss wasted another great pitching effort by McDaniel, who only allowed three hits while striking out 11.
Reeths-Puffer, now 31-4-1 on the season, will open district tournament play with a 10 a.m. game against Muskegon on Saturday at Grand Haven. The winner will advance to the championship game against Grand Haven or West Ottawa at 2 p.m.
