The Reeths-Puffer softball team is on a serous roll.

The Rockets improved to 12-0-1 on the season and brought home a trophy on Saturday after rolling past Lakewood, Kalamazoo Christian and Hamilton to win the Hamilton Invitational championship.

The most impressive victory of the day came in the tournament championship game against previously undefeated Hamilton, when the Rockets pounded out 16 hits and rolled to an easy 10-0 victory in a five-inning mercy-rule game.ferwaq

Lainey McDaniel was untouchable on the mound, pitching a perfect game with no hits, walks or errors and eight strikeouts.

Natalie Kunnen capped off a big day at the plate with three hits, including her second home run of the tournament.

McDaniel added three singles, Madi Snyder hit a double and a single, and Megan Barmes, Jersi Bilek and Kyleigh Bilek all had two singles.

She got the win on the mound by throwing a two-hitter with five strikeouts, and also had two hits and four RBIs.

McDaniel, Abbie Critchett and Aubrey Clark added two hits apiece for Reeths-Puffer, which totaled 11 hits in the game.

The Rockets kept things rolling with a 12-5 victory over Kalamazoo Christian in the semifinals.

Kunnen hit her first homer of the day and also had a single and a double. Critchett and McDaniel both collected a single and a double while Brook Buchan added two singles for the Rockets, who again piled up 11 hits.GREQW

The three victories clearly impressed R-P Coach Sarah Bayle.

“These girls are incredible,” Bayle said. “They worked for it all day long. The energy was high and all 13 girls did their part throughout the day. After several years of building this team, it is paying off. I could not be more proud of this selfless group of girls.”
