The bats were booming for the Reeths-Puffer softball team on Saturday in a doubleheader sweep over West Ottawa in non-conference action.

The Rockets overwhelmed the Panthers 18-0 in three innings in Game 1.

R-P banged out 11 hits, including a home run by Kaylee Jones, a single and a triple by Abbie Critchett and a triple by Natalie Kunnen.

Megan Barmes and Lainey McDaniel each added two hits for the Rockets. Critchett knocked in four runs while Barmes drove home three.

Kyleigh Bilek pitched the win with three strikeouts.

The Rockets completed the sweep with an 11-1 victory in five innings in Game 2.

Bilek and Jones each had a single and a double. McDaniel pitched the win with eight strikeouts.

“We did a great job of keeping the energy throughout both games and making adjustments at the plate,” said R-P Coach Sarah Bayle. “We were able to utilize our small ball and long ball today, which was great to see a combo of both that could become essential when playing tougher teams later in the season.” 

Reeths-Puffer, now 5-0-1, will host Holland in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
