The good news is that the young Reeths-Puffer girls soccer team finally found some offense in their third game of the season and took a lead into halftime of Wednesday’s contest.

Unfortunately the Rockets couldn’t sustain that lead and ended up falling 3-2 to Jenison in a non-conference matchup.

Irelyn Niklasch and Ashley Bradley both scored first-half goals for the Rockets, who had put up a fight against good teams in their first two games but had failed to find the net.

The Wildcats scored three times in the second half, however, to steal the victory.

The Rockets were outshot 9-8. R-P goalie Sara Calrson stopped six shots.

“Most of the game was played around their goal and our girls did a good job of being creative,” said R-P Coach Kody Harrell. “We were always just one pass or one touch away from the goal that could have put them away early or get us back into the game.

“The goals will come. We have some great talent to work with here and even better kids who are eager to learn and hungry to win.”

The Rockets, 0-3, will open O-K Green conference play on Tuesday, April 9 against rival Mona Shores.a
