Freshman Rocket Ben Kunnen

This past weekend, the Greater Muskegon High School Co-Op Swim Team, known as the Frogmen, competed at the OK Rainbow Conference Championship held at the Zeeland Natatorium on February 23rd and 24th. Comprising swimmers from Reeths-Puffer, Mona Shores, North Muskegon, Muskegon Catholic Central, West Michigan Christian, and Fruitport Calvary..

Among the competitors, freshman Ben Kunnen from Reeths-

Puffer stood out with his impressive performance. Kunnen showcased his skills in both relay events and individual races, making significant contributions to the team's efforts.

In the 200-yard Individual Medley (IM), Kunnen demonstrated substantial improvement, cutting an impressive 6.05 seconds off his time during Friday's preliminaries and further refining his performance with a 2.66-second improvement in the finals on Saturday.

Similarly, in the 100-yard Breast Stroke, Kunnen exhibited determination and skill, reducing his time by 2.8 seconds over the course of the weekend.

Although Kunnen missed securing all-conference honors, his achievements earned him a spot to represent his club team at the prestigious Great Lakes YMCA Zones meet in Canton, Ohio, slated for March 16th and 17th.

As Kunnen prepares to compete against top swimmers from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky, to name a few, his journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes, highlighting the values of dedication and perseverance in the pursuit of excellence. With his sights set on further success, Ben Kunnen is poised to leave his mark on the competitive swimming scene.
