The Reeths-Puffer boys basketball team bounced back from Friday’s disappointing loss to Muskegon with a dominating 81-43 victory over Grand Rapids Union on Tuesday night.

The Rockets took control from the get-go, outscoring the Red Hawks 19-8 in the first quarter and 26-10 in the second.

GR Union fared better in the third quarter, when R-P only had a 17-16 edge, but the Rockets finished the rout with a 19-9 advantage in the fourth.

Nine different Rockets scored in the victory, led by Jaxson Whitaker with 23 points and four assists.

R-P's Brayden Mitchelson: 18 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists.

Brayden Mitchelson had a great game with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Travis Ambrose added 15 points and three blocks.

The Rockets are now 16-2 overall and 10-1 in O-K Green conference play.

They are tied with Muskegon for first place in the O-K Green and can clinch at least a share of the title by winning their final three conference games – home on Friday against Wyoming, away next Tuesday at Zeeland East, and then home on Friday, Feb. 23 against a very good Zeeland West squad.

R-P will also play North Farmington at the Wilson Chandler Invitational tournament at Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Saturday.
