Jaxon Stone scored a three-goal hat trick, leading the Reeths-Puffer hockey team to a dominant 8-0 victory over Kenowa Hills on Wednesday in O-K conference action.

Ayden Hartzell and Tyler Cuti also had big nights for R-P, each totaling one goal and two assists, while Connor Stawski had two assists.

The victory was a big bounce-back for the Rockets following last week’s disappointing loss to rival Mona Shores.

The Rockets led 1-0 after the first period following a goal by Hartzell, which was assisted by Stawski.

R-P's Jaxon Stone, who had three goals on Wednesday.

R-P had to fight off two penalties near the end of the first period and did so successfully, thanks in large part to some big saves by goalie Huck VanDyke.

The floodgates opened in the second period when the Rockets collected goals from Tyler Cuit (assist Hartzell), Stone (assist Stawski), and Avery Freeland (assisted by Hartzell and Tyler Cuti).

Reeths-Puffer finished the game with four more goals, from Stone (assist Croix Klint), Eli Cuti (assists by Tyler Cuti and Freeland), Trenton Hanks (assist Gavin Pastotnik) and another by Stone.

Hanks’ goal was his first at the varsity level. Stone’s third goal ended the game due to the mercy rule.

The Rockets had three power play goals and two shorthanded goals.

“We get good starts and good things happen,” said R-P Coach Dustin Langlois, whose team is now 7-6 on the season. “We did a lot of things right. We still ran into some penalty trouble but dug in and got through it.”
