It’s hard to find positives in a loss, but when you compare how the Reeths-Puffer volleyball team was playing at the start of the season, and how it’s playing now, there is such a thing as a hopeful defeat.

The Rockets faced league power Zeeland West on Tuesday and put up a battle, but finally fell 3-1 in an O-K Green conference match.

The Rockets lost the first set 25-13, then rose up and battled to a 26-24 win in the second set.

Mady Snyder

Zeeland West won the third set 25-15 but had to fight off the Rockets 25-22 to clinch the match in the fourth.

The improvement and fight the Rockets showed against an elite opponent pleased R-P head coach Justin Birr.

“We finally competed hard against one of the top teams in our conference,” Birr said. “Overall this was our best conference match all season. I am proud of our overall effort and happy to see the growth from each individual player.”

Kiera Ketner

Mady Snyder, Mairyn Peterson and junior varsity call-up Makayla Disselkoen led the R-P offense with nine kills apiece. Maddy Dyer had 35 assists.

Defensively, Kiera Ketner had six digs, Dyer added five and Snyder and Peterson had two blocks apiece.

The Rockets, now 6-17-1 overall and 4-3 in conference play, will compete in the Mona Shores Best of the West Invitational on Saturday.
