For the first time in five years, the Reeths-Puffer girls golf team has won a conference tournament!

The rapidly improving Rockets had finished in second place in every O-K Green conference jamboree this season – which was good, but not good enough for them.

That frustrating streak ended on Wednesday in the final conference jamboree of the season, when the Rockets shot a season best 167 and took first place.

Zeeland West finished second with a 181 and Mona Shores was third at 183.

“I have coached many sports and many teams in my 27 years at Reeths-Puffer,” said R-P Coach Matt Pallett. “I am not sure I have ever been more proud of a team than I am tonight. These ladies continue to work hard to reach our team goals.

“The team is playing well and more importantly having fun playing.”

Senior standout Paige Anderson continued her great season by shooting a 36 and tying for first place individually with Zeeland West’s Rylee Smith. Anderson had three birdies on the day.

Junior Rowan Bluhm shot a 41, including birdies on the first two holes. She finished tied for fourth place individually with teammate Sophia McCollum, who shot a personal best nine-hole score.

Junior Avery Luna and freshman Olivia Ambler both shot 49, which were personal best scores.

The best part of the entire season has been watching the players support and root for each other, despite the individual nature of golf, according to Pallett.

“I enjoy seeing how each girl genuinely cares about their other team members and wants each member to do their best,” the coach said. “I love hearing team members congratulating each other.”
