R-P golf team

The Reeths-Puffer girls golf team finished in second place on Tuesday in the O-K Green Jamboree conference tournament at Muskegon Country Club.

While second place was not what the Rockets had in mind, their performance proved they are serious contenders for the O-K Green title with a lot of season remaining.

“Last year my team was not in the conversation about winning the conference,” said R-P Coach Matt Pallett. “We now know where we are at and have set a high, reasonable goal of winning the conference."

The Rockets shot a combined 198, just behind first-place Mona Shores, which totaled 185.

Zeeland West was third at 210, followed by Zeeland East (220) and Holland (249).

Senior Paige Anderson had another strong day for R-P, shooting a 41 and tying for second place individually with Zeeland West’s Rylee Smith. They were one stroke behind Mona Shores' Maysen Southland, the tournament medalist.

R-P junior Rowan Bluhm shot a 48 and tied for sixth place individually.

Sophia McCollum shot a 53 for the Rockets, followed by Avery Luna (54), Abby Haak (63) and Olivia Ambler (71.

Luna improved her score from last year’s event at Muskegon Country Club by 17 strokes.

“Every time we tee it up I look forward to watching my team compete," Pallett said. "This team is fun to coach and I know they will continue to work to reach their individual and team goals.”
