R-P vollleyball team

The Reeths-Puffer volleyball team continued its slow start to the season with a pair of non-conference losses at home on Tuesday night.

The Rockets fell to Ravenna in three sets and Fruitport in two.

In the first match, Ravenna won the first set 25-23, R-P rallied and won the second 25-12, then the Bulldogs took the tiebreaker 15-7.

The Rockets were in position to take control of the match when they led 22-18 in the first set, but let the advantage slip away.

“We had plenty of bright moments against a scrappy Ravenna team, but we definitely have some things to fine tune in practice,” said R-P Coach Justin Birr.

R-P's Mady Snyder

In the second match, Fruitport won both sets, 25-17, 25-23. Birr called the second half of the second set the best volleyball the Rockets have played all season, despite the final score.

“We played well in all aspects of our game, but just fell short against their middle attack,” Birr said. “Overall, there is a lot to build on now that our girls see what they can do when they reach their full potential.”.

Mady Snyder continued her strong offensive play for R-P with 17 kills. Defensively, Megan Barmes paced the Rockets with 27 digs while Grace Darke added 17 and Synder totaled 10.

Alissa Klopp blocked four shots for Reeths-Puffer.

The Rockets, now 2-6-1 on the season, will next face Mona Shores on the road on Sept. 7.
