The Reeths-Puffer boys soccer team was in good form on Saturday, posting a perfect 3-0 record, shutting out all three opponents and winning the inaugural Lakeshore Cup Invitational tournament at Holland West Ottawa High School.

The Rockets downed Spring Lake 3-0, West Ottawa 1-0 and St. Joseph 2-0.

Senior Liam Smith led the way with four goals and two assists on the day.

Smith scored twice in the victory over Spring Lake while Aiden McCollum added the third goal. Smith, Kyler Brainard and Ethan Pennington had assists.

Smith scored the lone goal against West Ottawa with an assist from Gavin Wright.

Smith and Ian Wright both found the back of the net against St. Joseph. Smith and Brainard had assists.

R-P senior goalie Gage Hopkins posted shutouts in the first two games, stopping eight shots against Spring Lake and seven against West Ottawa.

Gavin Wright got the shutout against St. Joseph, stopping six shots.

”I was very thrilled with how organized we were throughout the entire day,” said R-P Coach Kody Harrell. “There were really only a couple of scenarios throughout the day when I was even a little nervous about giving up a goal.

“I couldn’t be more proud of how much the guys are taking ownership in their roles and being part of a team.”

The Rockets, now 5-1, will take their momentum into Tuesday’s “Causeway Cup” battle at Mona Shores against the Sailors.
