R-P tennis team

The Reeths-Puffer boys tennis team seems to be developing nicely, particularly in doubles competition.

The Rockets' doubles teams had a very good outing on Tuesday against three different schools, winning 10 of 12 matches.

Their success helped R-P beat Fruitport 7-1 and tie North Muskegon and Western Michigan Christian by 4-4 scores.

The Rockets’ No. 2 doubles team of Cory Judd and Ethan Frang and the No. 3 team of Trent VanDam and Adam Schrumpf went 3-0 on the day.

Reeths-Puffer was dominant against Fruitport, taking seven of the eight matches in singles and doubles.

The No. 4 singles match was won by forfeit.

The doubles teams carried the Rockets in the 4-4 tie with North Muskegon, which swept all four singles matches. Winners for R-P were Paugh and Earnest (No. 1 doubles), Frang and Judd (No. 2 doubles), VanDam and Schrumpf (No. 3 doubles) and Baldus and Singleton (No. 4 doubles).

The top three doubles teams won 36 of 39 games against the Norse, while the No. 4 doubles flight was won by forfeit.

Trent VanDam

The Rockets won two singles matches and two doubles matches in the 4-4 tie with WMC. Winners were Alderink (No. 1 singles), Miller (No. 2 singles), Frang and Judd (No. 2 doubles) and VanDam and Schrumpf (No. 3 doubles).

Alderink had the most exciting win against WMC, beating the Warriors’ Will Liggett in a 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 tiebreaker match.

“I am very happy with the progress all the players have made in the last week, connecting little technique factors and improving our court placement throughout matches,” said R-P Coach Ryan Hankinson.

Adam Schrumpf

“We are still sorting out the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles. We match up well with the top five or six flights against good teams. We need to keep our younger and new players improving quickly to raise our competitiveness in the lower three flights.”

The Rockets will travel to Ludington on Friday to face the Orioles, as well as Traverse City West and Cadillac.
