The Reeths-Puffer baseball team wrapped up its season on Saturday with a tough 6-5 loss to Kenowa Hills in the Division 1 district tournament at Mona Shores High School.

The game was a tight back-and-forth affair.

The Rockets led 2-1 after one inning, the Knights took a 3-2 lead in the third, R-P tied the score in the fourth, then Kenowa Hills pulled ahead 6-3 after six innings.

Senior Kyle Schlaff wrapped up his varsity career with a three-hit game.

Reeths-Puffer scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but could not get the tying run across the plate.

The loss ended R-P’s chance to make the district title game later in the day and snapped the Rockets’ two-year district title streak.

Seniors Kyle Schaff (three hits) and David Wilhelm (two hits) finished their varsity careers with strong performances at the plate.

Senior David Wilhelm wrapped up his varsity career with a two-hit game.

Trent Reichert pitched five innings for the Rockets, striking out five, while Jaxson Whitaker pitched the other two innings.

Reeths-Puffer, which finished the season with a 17-16 record, should be in great shape next spring, with all but the three graduating seniors (Schlaff, Wilhelm and Catcher Holden) expected to return to the team.
