When the Reeths-Puffer boys golf team started its home O-K Green conference tournament last month, it was postponed before completion due to lightning.

In retrospect that might have been a good thing for R-P, because the Rockets did not shoot particularly well that day.

The tournament was completed on Thursday at Lincoln Golf Club, and the Rockets did better, allowing them to take third place in the final team standings with a score of 180.

Mona Shores won with a156 while Zeeland West was second with a 171.

R-P’s Dylan Panozzo continued his strong recent play by shooting a 43 and finishing ninth individually.

Sophomore Calvin Schlee, who has played at the junior varsity level most of this season, rose up and shot a 44 and finished 10th overall.

Kristian Brown shot a 46 for Reeths-Puffer, followed by Ayden Hartzell (47), Tanner Bonernoor (49) and Jacob Pierce (57).

“We did not play well that first night a month ago,” said R-P Coach Matt Pallett. “It is too bad we couldn’t restart the round. We are playing a lot better now. The guys did do a nice job of gaining some ground on the other teams, even though we only had to finish a few holes.

“I am very happy for Calvin Schlee. To come out and finish in the top 10 is great. He works hard on his game and it was great to see him rewarded for his hard work.”
