Reeths-Puffer senior Liam McHugh, and the girls on the Rockets’ 4x100-meter relay team, came away as champions on Friday at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Track Meet at Mona Shores High School.

McHugh had a great day all around. It started with his championship in the 300-meter hurdles, which he won with a time of 41.40. He finished well ahead of Montague’s Mason Darke (42.87) and Mona Shores’ Ryan Opsommer (43.36).

McHugh also took second place in the 110-meter hurdles and was a member of the Rockets’ second-place 4x800-meter relay team.

R-P’s girls 4x100-meter relay team, comprised of Melana Johnson, Brianna Smith, Madilynn Smith and Lainey McDaniel, won its event with a time of 52.52. The Rockets finished ahead of second-place Muskegon, which posted a time of 52.97.

Lots of other Rockets finished in the top five spots of their various events against the best competition in the area.

In the boys competition, R-P’s Jaxon Allen finished second in the 3,200-meter run, Kye Grant finished third in the 800-meter run and Tate Bradley was fourth in the 1,600-meter run.

The R-P boys relays teams also fared very well.

The 4x100 team of Kameron Coleman, Caiden Bolduc, Brody Johnson and McHugh and the 4x800 team of Allen, Matt Grimard, Grant and Bradley both finished second.

The 4x400 team of Bolduc, Sage Stiller-Secrest, Marvin Moore and Grant finished fourth and the 4x200 team of Coleman, Bolduc, Stiller-Secrest and Moore took fifth.

The Reeths-Puffer boys finished in third place in the team standings with 68 points. Whitehall took first place with 188 points.

In the girls competition, R-P’s Isabella Smith took second place in the pole vault, Jersi Bilek was third in the 800-meter run, Brianna Smith was fourth in the 100-meter dash, Madalyn Simpson was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and Madalynn Smith was fifth in the 200-meter dash.

R-P’s 4X400-meter relay team – Kamari Walker, Addyson Smith, Bilek and Savannah Lockwood – finished in second place.

The R-P girls finished in seventh place overall with 43 points. Whitehall won the title with 97 points.
