The Reeths-Puffer softball team isn’t accustomed to losing very much, and the Rockets did something about it on Thursday night.

After starting the season with an 11-0 record, R-P lost a game to Wyoming last week, two games to Zeeland East on Wednesday, and the opener of a doubleheader to Lowell on Thursday.

The Rockets appeared to be headed for another loss in Game 2, as well, trailing Lowell 8-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Then they struck back, scoring three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and six in the sixth inning to claim an exciting 11-8 victory.

R-P's Abbie Critchett, who hit a double in the victory.

The Rockets had nine hits in the win. Kaylee Jones had a single and double while Mady Snyder and Abbie Critchett both hit doubles. R-P also drew four walks and did not have any strikeouts.

Kyleigh Bilek got the win on the mound.

“Game two we got it going a little more and found those holes to help us push runs across,” said R-P Coach Sarah Bayle about the win, which broke a three-game losing streak. “I could not be more thrilled with their bounce-back tonight. “

The Rockets lost the opener by an identical 11-8 score.

Lainey McDaniel led the offense with three hits while Snyder, Critchett and Megan Barmes each had two.

“We played a great game, but a lot of our hits could not find holes,” Bayle said. “I have never seen so many line drives hit right to outfielders in one game before.”

Reeths-Puffer, now 16-4, will try to regain some momentum at Saturday’s Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Tournament.
