After a tough one-goal loss to rival Mona Shores last week, the Reeths-Puffer girls soccer team returned to its winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Holland on Tuesday in O-K Green conference action.

The Rockets collected both of their goals from senior Sophia Hekkema, who leads the team with 11 this season. Goalie Ava Klopp had an assist on one of the goals with a long punt while Billie Tryska assisted on the other.

Klopp stopped four of the five shots she faced. Reeths-Puffer had a big 19-5 advantage in shots on goal.

R-P's Sophia Hekkema, who scored two goals in the victory.

“We really struggled at connecting that final pass tonight,” said R-P Coach Kody Harrell. “We had a dominating performance with the ball, some of our best passing of the season, and looked really sharp the majority of the game. Just when we got around the attacking third we kind of had good passes but no purpose.

“We went up 2-0 and got too relaxed, too comfortable and it cost us a goal in transition. It was a bit of a hangover game, being the first one after the big rivalry matchup. I hope the girls rise to the occasion on Saturday.”

The Rockets, now 7-3-3 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play, will host a good Spring Lake squad on Saturday.
