The Reeths-Puffer girls tennis team improved its O-K Green conference record to 3-1 and remained only a half game behind first-place Holland and Zeeland West with a pair of victories this week.

The Rockets posted an impressive 5-3 win over Zeeland West on Wednesday, despite challenging weather conditions and a number of players missing from the lineup.

R-P split the singles matches, with Brooke Titus (No. 1 singles) and Olivia Harris (No. 2 singles) both winning in straight sets.

In doubles, the Rockets won three of four matches. Emma Fraser and Olivia Smith battled hard to win their No. 2 doubles match in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Smith jumped up two spots to fill in for a missing player.

Gabrielle Borgeson and Malania Eilers, who were 2-0 against Zeeland West and Union.

Malania Eilers and Gabrielle Borgeson (No. 3 doubles) won 6-1, 6-2, and Tapanga Foster and Charli Belinger (No. 4 doubles) won 6-4, 6-3.

“Malania and Gabby played their best tennis match of the season, winning in quick fashion,” said R-P Coach Ryan Hankinson.

On Thursday the Rockets kept rolling with an 8-0 sweep over Grand Rapids Union.

Olivia Smith, who subbed at No. 2 doubles against Zeeland West and helped produce a win.

Titus (No. 1 singles), Harris (No. 2 singles) and Miley Neel (No. 3 singles) won their matches in straight sets. Molly Matz (No. 4 singles) had to battle to a 7-6 win in the first set before taking the second 6-2.

The doubles teams dominated, with all four winning in straight sets. Emily Champoux and Ali Jakobi (No. 1 doubles) and Fraser and Whitney Dulyea (No. 2 doubles) won by identical scores of 6-1, 6-0. Eilers and Borgeson (No. 3 doubles) and Hope Latsch and Smith (No. 4 doubles) breezed to 6-0, 6-0 victories.

The doubles teams won 48 of the 50 games they played against Union.
