Sophomore Brook Buchan hit the first two home runs of her varsity career on Saturday, leading the undefeated Reeths-Puffer girls softball team to an 11-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader at Whitehall on Saturday.

The Rockets also won the first game, 6-2, and improved their record to 11-0 on the season.

Buchan's first homer hit the inside of the right field foul pole before bouncing over the fence. On her next trip to the plate, she drove a ball over the right fielder’s head and advanced around the bases for an inside-the-park homer.

Freshman Lainey McDaniel also had a great game, pitching a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and contributing three singles to the offense. Kyleigh Bilek had two hits while Kaylee Jones, Emme Buzzell, Abbie Critchett and Megan Barmes each had one.

R-P's Brook Buchan, who had two homers in Game 2 on Saturday.

The first game was much closer, but the Rockets were able to ride the arm of starting pitcher Mady Snyder, who struck out 12 Whitehall batters while scattering five hits.

Snyder, Barmes, Rowan Bluhm and Jersi Bilek had hits for Reeths-Puffer.

“We struggled a little bit in Game 1 making adjustments at the plate, but found a way to put the ball in play, lay bunts down, steal bases and push runs across to win,” said R-P Coach Sarah Bayle. “We got scrappy and I’m proud of that. Our defense was solid behind both pitchers today, who also did great with more than 10 strikeouts each.

“This team is rolling and has each other’s backs always. I can’t wait to keep watching them work.”

The Rockets will return to action on Tuesday with an O-K Green conference game at Wyoming.
