Reeths-Puffer’s Kye Grant got a big victory on the track on Friday, taking first place in the 800-meter run at the Fruitport Invitational.

Grant finished with a time of 2:02.99, outdistancing two Whitehall runners – Andre Richmond (second place, 2:03.88) and Jack Houtteman (third place, 2:06.09).

Grant’s victory was only one highlight for the R-P boys track team, which finished third in the nine-team event with 80 points. Whitehall took first place with 177 points while Berrien Springs was second with 149.

R-P’s Caiden Bolduc had a lot of success, placing third in the 200-meter dash (23.20 seconds) and 400-meter dash (54.15) and anchoring the second-place co-ed 4 X 400-meter relay team, which also included Grant, Jersi Bilek and Lainey McDaniel.

Liam McHugh also had a strong day, finishing second in the 300-meter hurdles (42.26 seconds), third in the high jump (six feet) and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.36).

Jaxon Allen finished third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:14 seconds.

Marvin Moore and Londo Rankin teamed up Bri Smith and Melanie Johnson for a third-place finish in 4 x 100-meter co-ed relay.

Allen and Grant teamed up with Jersi Bilek and Keeley Cole to finish third in the 4 X 1,600-meter co-ed relay.

Other athletes scoring and earning medals for the Rockets were Kameron Coleman (100 meters), Sage Stiller-Secrest (400 meters) and Tate Bradley (1,600 meters). 

“It was a great day with the weather and competition, with too many personal records to list!” said R-P Coach Don Ketner. “We finished third place as a team and will continue to get better as the season progresses!”
