Reeths-Puffer’s Liam McHugh looks ready to have a big track season in several different events.

McHugh opened the year with a first-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (43:06) and high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles on Wednesday in a three-team track and field event at Mona Shores.

McHugh and his teammates helped the Reeths-Puffer boys post two team victories, 67-61 over Mona Shores and 77-50 over Muskegon.

Several other Rockets also had successful days, including Tate Bradley, who won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:12, and Kaden Boeskool, who won the discus competition with a throw of 116 feet, 6 inches.

Distance runners Jaxon Allen, Kye Grant and Caiden Bolduc also performed well and earned valuable team points for the Rockets.

“I thought the young men competed well for the first outdoor competition of 2023, and seem hungry to improve upon their results from tonight,” said R-P Coach Don Ketner. “Liam did a great job of hurdling today. He looked really good getting over the hurdles outside for the first time this season.

“It was awesome to see Kaden Boeskool get a win in discus to start his senior year.  The distance kids of Jaxon, Kye and Tate were solid and very efficient with their performances today, as well.  All in all, a couple of wins, some good performances and we found some things we need to work on, too. The best result we could ask for!”
