R-P golfer

The Reeths-Puffer boys golf team kicked off the season on Monday with a tough outing at the Forest Hills Eastern Invitational at Egypt Valley Country Club.

Several Rockets had strong moments, like senior David Grimard, who came within a foot of shooting a hole-in-one, and junior Mason Cregg, who had a chip-in birdie from a bunker.

R-P struggled in the team standings, however, totaling 402 points and finishing 22nd out of 23 squads against very tough competition.

R-P's Tanner Bonjernoor, who tied for the team lead.

Grand Rapids Christian won the event with a score of 298.

R-P’s Tanner Bonjernoor, Dylan Panozzo and Kristian Brown tied for the team lead with scores of 99. Cregg shot a 105 and Grimard came in at 111.

“Considering that we have not had many opportunities to play this spring, I am happy with the fact that the boys competed and gave their best today on one of the most difficult courses we will play this year,” said R-P Coach Matt Pallett. “Golf can be a really tough game. We will continue to work on our mental toughness moving forward.”
