The Reeths-Puffer baseball team collected its second win in two nights on Tuesday with an impressive 7-3 victory over Western Michigan Christian.

The Rockets, who opened the season with a win over Coopersville on Monday, rallied from a two-run deficit to improve to 2-0.

Kyle Schlaff, who pitched the win and had three hits in the game. 

WMC took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run single by Cody Folkema, but R-P evened the score in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by David Wilhelm.

Trent Reichert put the Rockets in front for good with a solo homer in the third inning, then R-P pulled away by scoring three more in the sixth.

Wilhelm, Reichert and Kyle Schlaff each had three hits for Reeths-Puffer while Jack Yonkman added two. Overall the Rockets pounded out 14 hits.

R-P featured strong pitching for the second straight night. 

Schlaff, the starter, tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs while scattering three hits and striking out four. Relievers Jaxson Whitaker and Yonkman kept the Warriors in check the rest of the game, with Yonkman tossing the seventh inning to collect the save.

“The guys have bought into my smallball philosophy and just have the approach of putting the ball in play, and they are being aggressive on the base paths,” said R-P Coach Butch Attig. “Our pitchers continue to pound the strike zone and we’re playing solid defense, so they know they have a chance in every game.”
