Reeths-Puffer’s Brianna Smith had a great start to the season on Thursday, taking second place out of 160 runners in the 60-meter dash at the GVSU Laker Challenge at Grand Valley State University.

Smith posted a time of 8.29, which broke her personal best time in the event by .49 seconds. Smith also broke her personal best time in preliminaries with a time of 8.35.

“Brianna invested a lot of time this summer running AAU track and she continued to show up at conditioning all winter long,” said R-P Coach Angie Grant. “The form and speed work that has been put in front of her has paid off.”

Freshman Madilynn Smith also had a good day for R-P, finishing in 13th place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.77.

Keeley Cole also set personal records in the 800 and 1,600-meter runs.

“We had a few girls who stepped out of their comfort zones to try new events, while others stepped up to help support those that were competing in a track meet for the first time,” Coach Grant said. “As we approach outdoor season, we look forward to seeing our Lady Rockets continue to show up!”
