R-P boys track team

Four members of the Reeths-Puffer boys track team had strong performances on Wednesday at the season-opening GVSU Laker Challenge at Grand Valley State University.

Liam McHugh finished in third place in the high jump competition at six feet. He finished just behind winner Nick Riemersma of Zeeland East and second-place Camden Thompson of Whitehall.

Jaxon Allen finished in 10th place in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:42. Kye Grant took 21st in the event with a time of 4:46.

Caiden Bolduc took 18th place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.37 seconds.

The Laker Challenge did not include team standings or scores.

“Liam looked focused and efficient with his events,” said R-P Coach Don Ketner, who noted that McHugh was one of the few Rockets to compete in three events.  “He had a great start to his season. Big performances are coming for Liam and the rest of the team.

“I thought the guys performed well with many of them having their first track meet ever, but we still have a lot of work to do, and the guys are willing to put in the work!”
