The more you keep winning, the harder opponents try to knock you down.

The Zeeland East girls basketball team did everything it could on Tuesday to try to end Reeths-Puffer’s long winning streak and came very close, but the Rockets managed to pull ahead in the fourth quarter and steal a 42-38 road victory.

The Rockets have now won an amazing 11 games in a row. They improved to 14-5 overall on the season and 10-1 in the O-K Green conference.

R-P, which leads the conference, will play a crucial road game on Friday night against second-place Zeeland West.

After that the Rockets will finish the regular season on the road at Mona Shores and at home against Holland.

The Rockets struggled all night against the Chix, who led 7-6 after one quarter, 18-15 at halftime and 32-30 after three quarters.

Reeths-Puffer had a 12-6 advantage in the fourth quarter to steal the victory.

R-P’s Ariel Walker hit a huge three-pointer with 40 seconds remaining that put the Rockets up by four points and sealed the win.

Sophia Hekkema led R-P with 13 points while BillieTryska added 10 and Brooklynn Tornes scored nine.

Irelyn Niklasch, Tryska and Hekkema led in rebounding with eight, six and four boards, respectively.

Tornes had four assists while Hekkema dished out three.
