MICHIGAN MERIT EXAM

The 2018 Michigan Merit Exam (MME) has replaced the MEAP test as a way to measure Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for high schools across Michigan. The tests are taken by juniors, and is given over two days, consisting of the following components:

1. SAT - Tuesday, April 10, during 1st through 4th Hours

2. WorkKeys - Wednesday, April 11 during 1st through 4th Hours (Early Release Day)

3. Michigan Components - Science and Social Studies tests (taken online in April)

WHY DO STUDENTS TAKE THE SAT?

The SAT is a commonly accepted college entrance exam. The test is given as a part of the MME and students can use their scores for college entrance. These scores also qualify students for various scholarships.

WHAT IS THE "WORKKEYS" TEST?

WorkKeys tests are designed to help match employee skill levels with the required job skills. These tests measure real-world skills and ask students to complete tasks such as: reading a memo or a warranty and solving simple story problems, such as making change or figuring the amount of tile needed for a square room.

TEST TAKING TIPS?

Students often wonder about special test taking strategies. Though they cannot replace proper preparation, remind students to:

  1. Answer the easy questions first

  2. Pace yourself

  3. Read each question carefully

  4. Answer every question - there is no penalty for guessing

HOW CAN I HELP MY STUDENT PREPARE?

Remind students that they should:

  1. Be confident in their ability to do well on the SAT. They can do well!

  2. Know what to expect on test day.

  3. Take the practice tests and review their responses so they will feel comfortable about test day.

  4. Prepare well in advance for tests. Do not leave preparation to the last minute.

  5. Get plenty of rest the night before the tests to be in good physical condition for taking them.

  6. Eat a good breakfast.
