Class of 2020 Parade Tuesday Night!

On Tuesday, June 2nd at 7:00 p.m., our senior class of 2020 was supposed to be taking part in their graduation ceremony at the L.C. Walker Arena.   Due to COVID-19 concerns, our ceremony has been postponed until further notice from our Governor.

To honor our seniors on the night they were to graduate, there will be a senior parade this Tuesday, June 2nd at 7:00 p.m. so our graduates can gather in a socially distanced manner on our campus to celebrate with their family, friends and Rocket City community members.

The video (created by Mr. Beckeman) gives visual details of our parade route, where to park, best spaces to watch and cheer our seniors!  Please take time to view the video from the link below.

Senior Parade Route

We are preparing our campus parking lots, the south end of Roberts road and the west end of Giles road to maintain appropriate visuals for social distancing.  Our primary concern in staging this wonderful event, is to maintain the safety of all seniors and spectators.

The use of sidewalk chalk and landscaping flags will be used to provide visuals of appropriate social distance and we ask that all people not in cars to strictly adhere to the visual guidelines that will be present along the parade route.

The diagram below shows our parade route.

Our seniors will begin the parade in the northeast corner of the Roberts road parking lot driving in the lane nearest the high school.  The senior cars will turn right onto Roberts road turning right onto Giles road.  The cars will then turn into our Giles road parking lot, taking our bus circle lane.  The cars will turn right from this lot onto Giles road turning right onto our bus route lane located between our soccer stadium and R-P Elementary and Intermediate schools.

Family, friends and community members may view the parade from the following areas:

  • The sidewalk along the school off the Roberts road parking lot

  • Along Roberts road from the south entry of our Roberts road lot to the stop sign

  • Along Giles road between Roberts road to Riverside park

  • The sidewalk that encompasses our Giles road student parking lot.  The main basin of this lot may also be used to park and/or stand to view the parade

To ensure that all spectators have visual cues on what constitutes appropriate social distancing, we will use chalk on all sidewalks that mark the distance that people should allow as a safe distance from other families or spectators.

We will also use landscape flags in viewing areas where chalk is not an option.  This would include roadside on both Roberts and Giles roads.

We have an exciting event coming for our seniors and we want to provide the safest setting not only for them but for all that come to support R-P’s class of 2020.

Lastly, we’ve secured the professional services of Mr. Joe Lane to take photos of our celebration for those that choose to stay home.  We will post photos of our senior parade on our social media sites.
