Parent Communication 9/22/19

Good Afternoon RPI Families,

We had another great week at RPI!  Students have not only been deeply engaged in the fun, creative and interactive lessons our teachers prepare for them, but also demonstrating “The Rocket Way” in more areas that we can list!  We are proud of their efforts and yours, for taking the time to discuss and demonstrate Respect and Pride. As we head into the final full week of September, it is time for us to review Integrity.  Rocket City defines Integrity as “doing what is right or expected.”  As you are all aware, this age for our kids can be an interesting and challenging time in their lives. Kids are attempting to be more independent and we want to allow them to.  However, this sometimes comes with challenges. What is right to them, isn’t always what is right for us.  My parents used to say something like this to me: “remember that what you do is a reflection on me. It’s not just your choice, it is our choice.” While this used to annoy me as a kid, as an adult it was an invaluable lesson.  I remember that I would say to myself, as I was starting to be more independent, is this something my parents would let me do or want me to do?  If kids can use that filter, and it is an appropriate decision, they will be successful. They will be demonstrating Integrity!  Have that conversation with them this week.  They need all the reminders they can get!

A few announcements for this week:

  • Lunch Room A La Carte items --  Students are allowed to purchase extra items, in addition to their normal school lunch.  However, if you don’t want them to, please call the high school and ask for Jodi, head cashier, (ext. 3715) to set up parental controls on their lunch account.

  • Community Forum: We will be hosting a community forum tomorrow night (Monday, September 23) for a potential bond to improve our facilities. This will be held at Reeths-Puffer Middle School Commons Area at 7pm. Your input is important...please plan to attend.

  • Drop Off Lane -- As you may know, I have not been out there as much.  This has been intentional, as I have been spending time with our kids in the gym before school.  Please continue to show grace to those who don’t read the signs and pull forward.

  • Parent Portal Video - This video will help you in better understanding and setting up the Parent Portal of PowerSchool to view grades/attendance.

  • Donuts with the Principals: Our first one is this Friday (September 27) at 9:00 am.  This will be an informal get to know you time for all of us and will last about 30 minutes.  Please stop in the main office and we will direct you to the right location.

  • After School Opportunities: Yoga is offered on Monday/Wednesday after school until 3:20 in Mrs. Peel’s classroom.  Endurance Adventure is on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:00 pm.

Have a great week!
