Parent Communication 9/15/19

Good Afternoon RPI Families,

I hope this weekly update finds you enjoying this awesome weekend weather we are having!  Last week, I challenged you to talk about RESPECT with your kids. How did it go? Because if school was any indication, I would say it went really well!  Our kids have been doing a fantastic job thus far in school. Teachers have made countless comments about how respectful, coachable, funny, enjoyable our kids have been this year...and as someone who is still learning about our community at this level, I could not be more PRIDEFUL!  Thank you for your help in making RPI a special place for kids! Speaking of PRIDE...that is the next letter in RPI! When we talk to kids about PRIDE, it can take on many different looks.  For instance, we define Pride as satisfaction from achieving or belonging. What does that look like in your family? When I think of pride from belonging, I think of the 5 students I observed help a classmate pick up their drop classroom materials this week, the friend that support a struggling student with a hug, the teachers who are doing amazing things to build learning communities in their classrooms, where students know they are loved, supported and challenged.  That is the PRIDE I feel...This is yet another glaring example of “The Rocket Way” on display!

A few announcements for the week!

  • Friday Half Day! We will have our first half day, this Friday, September 20.  School ends at 10:55!

  • Morning Drop Off: Parents, for the most part, you are doing a great job of pulling forward and allowing the maximum amount of cars in the drop area at a time.  Thank you! While it can sometimes be frustrating...remind yourself that you are modeling RESPECT for your kids! I did have a few parents reach out to me this week about those who aren’t pulling all the way forward. Please know that we will continue to work on it and this is NOT a unique problem to our school! This video might offer you some perspective.

  • Parent Connect: We had a great first meeting last week.  We are meeting again on October 11 at 4pm, with the hopes of getting more parents involved!  We are in need officers and new ideas! Please plan to attend.

  • RP Gear / Parent Connect Orders: Here is the updated form.  Order your gear today!

  • Vape/E-cig Parent Resource: We received this helpful flier this week from the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District. Quick read but full of good information.

  • Dangers of Cell Phones on Mental Health: We shared this on our Facebook page last week. Too important not to share again.  Here is the CBS story

  • Don’t forget to like our Facebook Page! We are trying to share some photos and good things every day!

Have a great week!
