Dear Parent or Guardian,
Welcome to a new school year!  I am very pleased to be working with your son/daughter this year in a course called Transition Mathematics.
As your student is making the transition into algebra and geometry in years to come, a variety of math skills will be taught this year.  Please take a few minutes to read pages 1 and 2 of the Transition Mathematics text with your student.
The grading scale I use is the same as that is in the student handbook, but daily assignments are based on a 5 point system which will be fully explained in class.  I do give a daily assignment just about everyday of the school year and what is not finished in class, should be done as homework.  We will also focus on skills toward taking the MEAP test and ways to study for the quizzes and tests.
Please permanently label all of your student’s math materials with their name before they come to school.  Suggested materials include:  paper, pencils, math folder, ruler (in. /cm), protractor and scientific calculator.  If you haven’t purchased a scientific calculator yet, I recommend the Texas Instrument TI-30.
I personally challenge students to respect themselves and others in the room, as well as the classroom and all that is in it.  I have high expectations for your child to come to class each day prepared, cooperative, and willing to do the very best he/she possibly can.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at school during my planning period.
Sincerely,
Ms. R. R. Jacoby
