"Music IS Love in Search of a Word " as the quote on our choir room wall states. That mural inspires us every day to find & express the meaning in each song we perform. Before we can sing the song, we must be able to read the music and the words, so I teach Music Theory, as well as vocal technique. I want the Choir students to be "Musicians who Sing," when they leave my classroom and enter High School. I have the prividge of teaching vocal music and theatre performance skills to the students at our Middle School. In moments of truth & silliness I translate that into the statement that Reeths Puffer pays me to play & sing with children! Because I teach classes of "Performing Arts," the performances are mandatory for all students. There is no alternative assignment I can give which would replace the performance experience. Choirs have several scheduled concerts each year. Theatre classes are only a semester long. These students perform in a play at the end of each semester.
In my other life, I am the mother of four children of my own. My oldest lives in New York City, two live in Michigan, not too far away & my youngest is currently in Taipei, Taiwan teaching English. Facebook keeps us together. I live in a turn of the century house in Whitehall that my husband & I have restored over the years. My joy in life is playing with my 3 year old grandson, Sebastien.
