Thanks to the generosity of our community and to "Great Start Readiness Program" grant funds, Reeths-Puffer Elementary School has a new Pirate Ship themed playground just for preschoolers!
On August 27, volunteers from throughout the community came together to build it. The project was led by GSRP associate teacher Vicki Graham. Mrs. Graham has worked countless hours on the project, which kicked off last October.
The R-P Elementary preschool children and staff would like to thank the many volunteers and donors who made their special preschool playground a reality!

GSRP Program Description
GSRP is a state-funded preschool program for eligible 4-year-old children. The emphasis of this half-day program is on getting children ready for Kindergarten in a supportive and caring environment.
Children will participate in a broad range of activities involving:
Fine motor development
Large motor development
Language arts
Math
Science
Social studies
Music
Movement
Art
Activities and lessons are developmental to provide opportunities for children to grow! The goal is for all children to be prepared for Kindergarten.
Classes are held at McMillan and Reeths-Puffer Elementary schools. All children in the Reeths-Puffer district can apply. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements. Low income and at-risk children are given priority.
Screening
All GSRP children must be screened when entering the program. The screenings use fun games and activities to check language development, fine and large motor skills, and cognitive development. Teachers use the information to determine if extra support will be needed for your child. Screening information is not used to place children in developmental groups, nor is it graded.
Screening is required for all GSRP children.
Home Visits
The Great Start Readiness Program requires two home visits each year. Teaching teams make one home visit at the beginning of the year and one in the middle of the year. Home visits are used to get to know children and their families in their own homes, where they are most comfortable.
During the first visit, the teaching team and family work together to develop a plan for the start of the school year. Parent involvement in developing this plan is very important to getting your child off to a good start in preschool.
The mid-year home visit is focused on your child's development and progress toward readiness for Kindergarten.
