Endurance Adventure

Season 08 Blog

The Endurance Adventure Program is designed and implemented to help middle school boys develop the desired strengths and qualities which will help them become strong leaders of the future.  The catalyst of this program is preparation for a culminating Adventure Race involving biking, canoeing, orienteering, and running.

Over an eight week period the boys will meet with adults who will facilitate as mentors in guiding each adventure racer in finding his own leadership and teamwork attributes.  Mentors will also develop the racers’ specific physical skills for adventure racing.  Through team building activities the middle school boys will come to understand the importance of finding the physical and emotional strengths of team members.  Individuals will learn not only the power in their own strengths, but also the value in acknowledging the strengths in others.

In our culture we often perceive that our young men must be strong in every area and to never concede a weakness.  With the current World Economy, team effort is paramount to success.  Future leaders will need not only skill acquisition, but also a strong foundation of working with a diverse team comprised of various levels of physical and emotional strength.

With all the excitement of an Adventure Program, the middle school boys will find their own contributions along with a host of new, life-long skills.  For some of the middle school boys, this may be the first time they have ever experienced real camaraderie or built a trusting relationship with a strong mentor.  For others, the thrill will be in capturing the natural high in cooperative competition while being physical in life-long activities of biking, canoeing, running and orienteering.
