2008 Robotics Team
Welcome to the RPI Robotics Team home page. This page is designed to educate parents about our team, explain the tasks we need to accomplish and inform you about our First Lego League Tournament.
A second page includes our schedule of parctices and events. Check back often as I will use this as the main communication tool for our team.
Our TeamOur team is made up of 15 sixth grade students that are teacher selected. We meet daily during Explore time and Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.
Our TasksEach team participating in a First Lego League(FLL) Tournament must complete the same tasks.
We received a field mat and a box of Legos that must be constructed into various buildings that FLL requires on every mat.
Once the field mat is constructed our team must build a robot. FLL gives a list of missions that our robot could complete on the field mat. Our team must choose the missions we want to accomplish and build a robot that will best complete those tasks. If you would like to see the list of missions and short videos that show each task click on the link below that will take you to the FLL Missions web page. Missions
The students have constructed one robot to practice and test with. They are in the process of redesigning and reconstructing our robot to better accomplish our missions. This picture shows what our robot looks like at the present moment. During the FLL tournament we will have three opportunities to complete as many missions as we can in two minutes and thirty seconds. Judges will award the team points for each mission completed.
Each team must also research, and create a project based on the theme First Lego League (FLL) picks for the year. The team must present that project to a team of judges at our competition. This years theme is Climate Connections. The students must learn about our local climate, research a problem created by our climate and design a solution to the problem. For complete details on what the team must do you can click in the link below that will take you to the FLL Project web page. The Project
The team has been working very hard so far and they are very excited to see how much they can accomplish in the next month and a half.
