First Annual Food Drive at Central Elementary
Central Elementary just wrapped up it's first annual food drive organized and sponsored by the Central Elementary PTO (CEPTO). They were able to collect 2,379 can goods for the Muskegon Mission. Staff wanted to make it fun for the children while teaching them that they could make a difference in the community by being charitable. Each teacher was given a laminated turkey to hang outside of the classroom and for every three items turned in, the class was given a feather. Luckily, many fantastic moms helped cut the feathers out of construction paper. The drive was a contest between the Kindergarten, first and second grades and the third and fourth grades with the top two classes being treated to a pizza party with principal, Mr. Lyons. The top two classes were Mrs. Whitaker's first grade classroom with 281 cans collected and Mrs. Carlson's fourth grade classroom with 335 cans collected. Staff are very proud of their students and appreciate the generosity of their families to help make the first food drive a huge success. Next year, the CEPTO hope to reach their goal of 2,500 items.
